The Hotel Lobby AI Trend, Explained

By the · Updated

Spotting the Hotel Lobby AI trend in your feed

Two friends nodding along in a glowing orange room. Two cats, or a pair of cartoon mascots, sharing one microphone that hangs on a cord from above. If a clip like that has crossed your screen, you have met the Hotel Lobby AI trend. The recipe never changes: a duo, one dangling mic, an orange wall and a short landscape take with no cuts. Only the cast is new each time.

That sameness is the point. Viewers recognize the setup in a second, so the joke lands on who was put in the booth, not on the scene itself.

    Two friends, one mic

Photo 1 raps into the hanging mic, photo 2 dances beside her, from two separate portraits. Fictional test portraits, not customers.

The cat takes the mic, the dog keeps the beat. Two pet photos, no people at all. Fictional test photos.

Two genuine clips in this format, rendered by the RapZap pipeline from fictional test photos: a pair of people, then a cat with a dog.

There is no hotel in a Hotel Lobby video

“Hotel Lobby” is a song title from the original performance, not a location. You will not find a front desk, a chandelier or a luggage cart anywhere in these clips. That catches out search engines and chatbots as well: type “hotel lobby AI video” and you may be shown tools for producing hospitality marketing reels. Those serve hotels selling rooms, which is a completely separate job.

If you came here for the duo format, you are in the right place. If you need a promo film for a real hotel, a general AI video tool is a better fit.

Origin of the Hotel Lobby AI trend

The setup comes from the A COLORS SHOW set where Quavo and Takeoff performed “HOTEL LOBBY (Unc & Phew)”, which the COLORS YouTube channel posted on June 17, 2022. Quavo and Takeoff, both members of Migos, recorded together under the name Unc & Phew in 2022. On the COLORS set they deliver the song against a flat orange backdrop, trading lines into one microphone suspended from overhead.

The frame is clean and symmetrical, and that is why it makes a strong template. Swap in any two faces and the reference still reads at once.

Takeoff was killed in November 2022. Some fans have pushed back on AI clips that recreate his face, which is another good reason to cast yourself and people you know rather than the original artists.

Timeline of the Hotel Lobby AI trend

  1. COLORS posts the A COLORS SHOW set where Quavo and Takeoff performed “HOTEL LOBBY (Unc & Phew)” on YouTube.

  2. XXL reports that the trend appears to begin on TikTok, with a clip that drops two cats into the scene.

  3. AI remakes multiply across TikTok and X, casting friends, couples, pets, celebrities and fictional characters in the booth.

  4. Explainers on the format arrive from XXL, Complex and Know Your Meme.

  5. Tom's Guide examines the consent, copyright and photo-upload questions the trend raises.

Why the format spread so fast

  • One glance is enough: orange walls, a single hanging mic, two performers.
  • The entry fee is two photos. No studio, no camera crew, no editing software.
  • It is built for pairs, from best friends and couples to siblings or a dog with its owner.
  • Casting is the punchline. Half the fun is seeing which two end up sharing the mic.
  • It lasts seconds and never cuts away, so it registers mid-scroll.

Pet versions did a lot of the early lifting. A cat with a perfectly timed head bob is hard to scroll past, and the cats-first start that XXL describes gave the trend a playful tone before celebrity remakes arrived.

The concerns, and how to stay on the right side of them

Putting real faces into a famous performance has raised questions about consent, copyright and what AI services do with uploaded photos. Tom’s Guide covered these in October 2026. A handful of ground rules keeps your take on the Hotel Lobby AI trend clean:

  • Use photos only of people who said yes, and only pets that are yours or that you have permission to show.
  • Leave celebrities out, and never pass the clip off as real footage.
  • Find out how long a service holds your photos. RapZap wipes them within 24 hours of the render ending, whether it worked or failed.
  • Add the track through each app’s own licensed audio picker instead of uploading a file yourself. RapZap clips carry no audio; mouths follow the TikTok sound, which you attach while posting.

Where the Hotel Lobby AI trend fits on RapZap

RapZap is an independent AI rap video maker, and Hotel Lobby is its flagship two-person template. It recreates the orange booth layout from your two photos and hands back a clip ready to post. RapZap is not linked to the artists, their labels or COLORS, and it never ships the original recording inside your file.

Join the Hotel Lobby AI trend in four steps

  1. Choose two sharp photos

Grab one picture per performer. Each should hold a single person or pet, face visible and evenly lit. JPEG, PNG or WebP uploads are fine, as long as each stays under 10 MB.

  2. Load them into the generator

Whatever you put in Photo 1 lands on the left, and Photo 2 lands on the right. Tap Swap performers to reverse the pair, then tick the box saying you have permission for both photos.

  3. Render and pay one time

Tap Make My Hotel Lobby Video. Without credits on your balance, you first pay $8.99 through Stripe checkout. The AI then sets up the orange booth, and a status page tracks every real stage.

  4. Save the MP4 and share

Play back your 15-second clip and download the file. We hold it for 7 days only, so keep your own copy before posting to TikTok, Reels or Shorts.

Common questions

What exactly is the Hotel Lobby AI trend?

A viral AI clip format in which two people or pets stand in an orange booth beneath one hanging mic and perform as a rap duo. The look is modeled on a 2022 live performance, and AI remakes spread across TikTok and X during September 2026.

Which song does the Hotel Lobby trend come from?

It is “HOTEL LOBBY”, the track Quavo and Takeoff released as Unc & Phew and played on A COLORS SHOW in 2022. RapZap leaves that recording out of your file; clips stay silent, with lip movement matched to the TikTok sound you pick when posting.

If there is no hotel, why the name?

The phrase comes from the song’s title in the original performance. The AI half of the name points to the tools people use to place themselves in that scene.

Are Migos AI and the Hotel Lobby AI trend the same thing?

Yes. Whether someone types Hotel Lobby AI, Migos AI, Quavo AI or rap duo AI, they mean the same orange-booth duo format.

How old is the Hotel Lobby AI trend?

The source performance came out in June 2022. AI remakes first surfaced on TikTok in early September 2026, then exploded during the second half of that month.

Is joining the trend safe?

It can be, as long as everyone pictured agreed, you skip celebrity photos, you mark the clip as AI-made and you choose a service that states how long it holds your photos.

Is RapZap connected to the artists?

No. RapZap is an independent tool with no affiliation, endorsement or sponsorship from the artists, their record companies, A COLORS SHOW or any social network.
